The Placemat Process is an Abraham-Hicks technique, and Law of Attraction Toolbox turns it into a simple two-column list on your iPhone or iPad. You write what you will do on one side and what you hand over to the Universe on the other. It is part of this manifestation app’s Games tab and is for anyone who feels overloaded and wants to let go of some of the weight.
What is the Placemat Process?
The Placemat Process was introduced by Esther and Jerry Hicks in the teachings of Abraham. It is designed to help you get unstuck by entrusting some tasks to the Universe, which releases resistance and gives the Universe permission to help you with them.
You make two lists. One is “Things I will do” and the other is “Things the Universe will do”, and together they make the placemat. On your side go the things you want to do today or must do today. Abraham suggests writing everything else you want taken care of on the Universe’s side.
The key, according to the app, is letting go of the need to control everything: focus on what you can do and allow the Universe to handle the rest.
What you can do with the Placemat Process
- Create as many placemats as you like, for example one per week or per project.
- Add tasks to the “Me” list and the “Universe” list, and tick them off when they are done.
- Move a task to the other list, or to another placemat.
- Copy your unfinished tasks into a fresh placemat.
- Set your own wording for the two list headings, sort tasks, and archive old placemats.
How to create a placemat
- Open the Games tab and tap Placemat Process. This opens your Placemats list.
- The first time, you will see “No Placemats Yet”. Tap Create Placemat. Later, tap the + button in the bottom right.
- Enter a name under “New Placemat Name” and tap Add Placemat.
- Tap your new placemat to open it.
How to add and complete tasks
- Inside a placemat you will see two sections, Me and Universe. On iPhone they stack; on iPad they sit side by side. Under each heading is a line of premise text, “Things I will do” and “Things the Universe will do” by default.
- Tap the + next to a heading. In the “New Task” box (or “New Universe Task” for the Universe list), type a description and tap Add Task.
- When a task is done, tap the circle to its left.
- Tap the task itself to open “Edit Task”. There you can change the task name, switch the “Completed” toggle, use “Change Placemat” to move it to another placemat, or “Change List” to move it between Me and Universe. Tap Save when you finish, or Delete Task to remove it.
Example
Placemat: “Monday”. On the Me side: “Send the invoice” and “Book the dentist”. On the Universe side: “Hear back about the apartment” and “Fix the slow Wi-Fi”. Once the invoice is sent, tap its circle. The Universe items stay on the list until they resolve – then you tick those off too. This is only an illustration.
Keeping your placemats tidy
- Copy to a new placemat: inside a placemat, tap the tray icon in the toolbar. “Copy Items to New Placemat” copies the incomplete tasks into a new one, after you name it and tap Create.
- Rename: tap the pencil next to the placemat name and choose “Edit Placemat Name”.
- Sort: use the sort icon (“Sort Tasks” inside a placemat, “Sort Placemats” on the list).
- Archive: on the Placemats list, swipe a row and tap Archive. Tap the archive icon to view “Placemats (Archived)”, where you can swipe to Un-Archive or Delete.
- Settings: the gear icon opens “Placemat Settings”, where you can choose “Strike-Through Completed”, and set your own premise text for each list.
Tips
- Put on the Universe side the things you do not need to control.
- Check back later. Completed tasks keep their “Completed on” date.
- Make a new placemat each day or week and copy over what is unfinished.
Where your placemats are kept
Placemats are not stored in Saved Entries. They live in the Placemats list inside the game. Each row shows the placemat’s name, the number of tasks in each list in the form “(U:2 – M:3)”, and a “Created on” date.
